description | Diet in high saturated fat and cholesterol can increase the risk of hyperlipidemia. Previous studies, indicated that the brown and black rice contains more antioxidants than white rice. Black rice areeffective in improving liver function in hyperlipidemic rats. This study aims to determine the Serum Glutamic Pyruvate Transaminase (SGPT) and bilirubin levelsin hyperlipidemic rats with dietary treatment using black rice and black rice bran derived from the black rice \"Cempo Ireng\". A total of 24 male rats were divided into 4 groups: control group and 3 groups of hyperlipidemic rats, which were given one of three basal diets: feed pellets, pellet containing 30% black rice, and a pellet containing 10% black rice bran. The first phase was induction of hyperlipidemia in the hyperlipidemic groups by administering a mixture of lard and duck egg yolk with a ratio of 1:1 (v/v) mixed with 2% pure cholesterol. Doses were given at 1 ml/100 g BW orally everyday for 30 days. The second stage was dietary treatment for 30 day with the maintainance consisted ofhyperlipidemic condition. Rat body weight was measured every 7 days and the rest of the feed intake was measured every day. Measurement of SGPT and bilirubin levels was performed after treatment of hyperlipidemia and after dietary treatment. The results of SGPT and bilirubin levels analyzed using one way ANOVA continue with Tukey's HSD andT-Test with5% significance. The analyze showed that the current treatment of hyperlipidemia with feed containing 30% black rice can lower SGPT levels by as much as 19.38% and bilirubin levels by 27.42%. In the treatment of hyperlipidemia with feed containing 10% black rice bran can reduce levels of SGPT by 21.46% and bilirubin levels by 46.82%. This decrease was statistically significant (<0.05), thereforeit can be concluded that a black rice bran can more effectively than black rice to improve liver function as shown by decreases in SGPT and bilirubin levels in hyperlipidemic rats. |
