Description
Summary:Tiroid hormones level, such as Thyroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3) have a great impact on growth process. It was related against the effect of basal metabolism elevation rate which had significant role on individual growth and development. This research was attempted to understanding the comparison between male and female wistar rat growth rate and its relation with T3-T4 level in blood serum, and was conducted at Laboratorium Penelitian dan Pengujian Terpadu (LPPT) UGM Yogyakarta. Fifteen male and female Wistar rats were used in this research. Those rats had been raised since one month till four months. Rats were fed of AD2 and RO ad libitum. Rats body weight were measured once a week and blood samples once a month. Blood samples were collected via the orbital sinus about 1 ml of blood using mikrohematokrit and placed into a sterile tube, then centrifuged it 3000 rpm for 15 minutes to make serum. The result showed that the growth rates of male rats were faster than the female ones. The male growth rate were 22,8 gram per week and the female rats 12,8 gram per week. The result using statistic method showed negative correlation between T4 concentrations and growth rate, but positive correlation between T3 concentrations and growth rate. In conclusion, there are correlations between growth rate and tiroid hormones level in rats (p<0,5) Key words : Rat Wistar, body weight, thyroxine, triiodothyronine, ELISA
