Summary: | This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of litter material from
the by product of nilam (Pogostemon cablin Benth) and clove (Syzygium
aromaticum (L) Merr. & Perry) leaves distillation on the performance of broiler
and the decreasing of coccidiosis infection. One hundred and fifty day old of male
Lohmann broilers were divided into five groups of experiment based on material
of the litter. The litter material treatment were : nilam (N) and clove (C) leaves
distillation, mixture of nilam and clove (NC) leaves distillation (50:50), mixture of
rice husk, nilam and clove (SNC) leaves distillation (33:33:33) and the litter
material from rice husk (S). The treatment used 10 chickens each with three
replication. The feed and water were given adlibitum and all of the chickens were
infected with oocyst orally when reached 14 days of age, with the dosage of 5000
each. Parameters collected include the feed consumption, body weight gain, feed
conversion, mortality, temperature and pH of litter, total Eimeria tenella oocyst
and degress of lesion score. The data were analyzed with ANOVA and continued
with Duncan using SPSS version 20, degrees of lesions score were processed
descriptively and analyzed with rank test method. The results showed that the
use of litter material N, C, NC, SNC and S had not significantly difference on the
initial and end temperature of litter (28.7 and 30.6)
