Summary:Thyroid gland produces triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) hormones which have a function to increase the metabolic activity in almost all body tissues. The higher this hormone secretion increased, the higher the basal metabolic increased to 60%-100% above normal. The aim of research is to determine the ratio of T3 and T4 hormones in various age of male Wistar strain rat (Rattus novergicus). The research was using 15 males Wistar strain rats aged one month. The rats were raised from 1 month age to 4 months. They were given anaesthetic, ketamine HCl, before to collect their blood sample. Blood samples were taken via the orbital sinus once a month with microhematocrite and were placed into a sterile tube and then were centrifuged to make serum. The ELISA was used to determine the level of triiodothyronine and thyroxine hormones in the blood serum. The result showed that there was significant difference in the average concentration of triiodothyronine in various age male rats.
