Summary: | Cyberdemocracy has been expected to enhance the public sphere,
nevertheles the online comment has led to ignore the value of publicity,
especially, critical rational debate and consensus. Related with it, this research is a
study on the cyberdemocracy configuration with the case of a DKI Jakarta�s
governor candidate representation at Kompas.com�s comments in 2012. This
research aims to investigate, describe, interpret, and explain how the
cyberdemocracy configuration in online comments, by observing how the
discourse is consumed and produced, with what is purpose, and what is
implication and reflect.
This research uses qualitative method with a critical paradigm approach.
Corpus of analysis are three of discourse, nine of headlines news that are
presented and developed by Kompas.com, and thirty-three of comments on
Kompas.com. This corpus have analyzed by applying Theo van Leeuwen�s
critical discourse analysis. This method is a bout to dismantle a cognition behind
the discourse. In addition, this method also dismantle the ideology and power that
have been operating. This research focuses particulary on the discourse strategies
of exclusion and inclusion to social actor.
This research showed that: First, the existence of discourse polarization
and contestation among the discourse of a good and bad governor candidate. A
Good governor candidate is reprensented through image such as the words of
�changes�, �experienced�, �proven�, �anti-racial politics�, �clean�, and �defeat
acception�. While a bad governor candidate is represented through the same
image such as the word of �status quo�, �trial and error�, �pro-racial politics�, and
�corrupt�. Discourse strategies that have used in the representing social actor are
focused on inclusion strategy with have the purpose to promote their groups and
marginalize other groups. Second, discourse at the online comments has reflected
readers cognition about the governor candidates who are contest there are good
and bad governor candidate. In this research olso showed the operation of the
power of cyber-vulgar and the operation of ideology of cyber-like and dislike.
Third, cyberdemocracy at online comment is the democracy of nothing, i.e. the
democracy of dedeliberation, deethicts, dehumanist, and controlled.
