Summary:Objective: Various hospital-based studies have been conducted to identify the risk factors of stroke. There are no studies to examine the prevalence of stroke patients based on the risk factors on communities, whereas the knowledge of the prevalence of stroke patients based on the risk factors is very important. This research is aimed to analyze the prevalence of stroke in three sub-districts in Kabupaten Magelang, East Java. Method and the place of the research: This research used cross-sectional descriptive method in four community health centers in three sub-districts in Kabupaten Magelang, East Java. The data sources in this research are the medical records of ischemic stroke patients who come to four health center in 2012. Sampling technique was conducted by non-probability sampling with a type of concecutive sampling. A checklist is the instrument of collecting data and a computer with SPSS program to input and analyze the data. Result: The result of the research analysis shows that 167 patients who are stroke diagnosed on the first visit carrying the risk factors of diabetes mellitus, obesity, smoking, hypertension and heart disease. The risk factors of one patient can be vary, which can have one or more risk factors. Conclusion: Cerebrovascular disease and meningeal hemorrhage are parts of stroke. The risk factors that generally can cause a person to have a stroke are age, gender, hypertension, obesity, diabetes mellitus, smoking, and alcohol consumption.
