ABSTRACT
This research is a descriptive qualitative research which describes a number of variables related to the influence of iron sand mining industry to increase economic resilience in Kulon Progo. The data is collected by interviewing some informants. The informants are those who know very well and quite deeply about the object of observation. Research subjects in this study are the village as well as government officials , community leaders , and the people around the area.The data is collected from interview text, field note, photos, private documents, company�s official documents and local government�s documents. Analysis technique of the data in this research is organizing data in certain classification to be interpreted, tabulated, analyzed, concluded.
The result of the research shows that the iron-sand mining industry in Kulon Progo has investment of 5.4 to 6 trillion rupiah with working contract area about 2,987.79 hectare which needs around 2,100 labours. The analysis shows several factors which obstruct the process of developing iron sand mining industry. Those are amateur workers, relationship with the society around the site, disapproving people, human resource in Kulonprogo, political interest of some people, less wages for workers compared to working in rice field, less encouragement from government authority with its laws.

The iron-sand mining and processing industry influences the local�s economic resilience in Kulon Progo Regency. It provides job vacancy for many workers/labours, provides business opportunity, reimburses land, its agricultural product, and its infrastructure. Local government gets income from tax, retribution, royalty, area development fund, society development fund to raise local government revenue. The raise of local income will improve the area�s condition which improve agriculture sector, industry sector, local capital, management, competitiveness, structure and infrastructure, commerce, foreign exchange and monetary to increase economic resilience in Kulon Progo Regency. |
