Streszczenie: | Background: Concha bullosa is a common anatomic variants in the nasal cavity that
may cause maxillary sinusitis.
Objective: To determine the relationship between the concha bullosa and mucosal
thickening of maxillary sinus in patients with axial paranasal sinus multi slice computed
tomography Scan.
Materials and Methods: This retrospective analytic correlative study, will be
assessed the correlation between concha bullosa and mucosal thickening of maxillary sinus
on 34 axial paranasal sinus multi slice computed tomography scan. Data were analyzed with
the Spearman correlation test to determine the correlation between the concha bullosa and
mucosal thickening of maxillary sinus. In this study, the target population is all the result of
axial paranasal sinus multi slice computed tomography Scan in Dr. Sardjito Central General
Hospital. While the reached population in this study is all data from axial paranasal sinus
MSCT scan at Dr. Sardjito Central General Hospital on February to July 2013.
Results: The study sample as many as 34 samples, men sample characteristics as
much as 9 samples. Characteristics by age <30 years as much 8 samples (23.5%), aged 30-40
years were 9 samples (26.5%), aged 41-50 years were 3 samples (8.8%), age> 50 years were
14 samples (41.2%). Concha bullosa was found in the right nasal cavity as many as 21
samples (61.8%) and left nasal cavity as many as 26 samples (76.5%). Correlation concha
bullosa with mucosal thickening of maxillary sinus : Right concha bullosa to right maxillary
sinus p > 0.05 (p = 0.082), left concha bullosa to right maxillary sinus p > 0.05 (p = 0.112),
right concha bullosa to left maxillary sinus p> 0.05 (p = 0.470) , left concha bullosa to left
maxillary sinus p> 0.05 (p = 0.394)
Conclusion: Concha bullosa has no significant correlation with the mucosal
thickening of maxillary sinus
