Description
Summary:Toxoplasmosis is a disease caused by obligate intracellular parasites. Free-range ducks are vulnerable to the environmental toksoplasma infections. This study aims to determine prevalention toksoplasmosis in ducks and their red blood cells overviews infected by Toxoplasma gondii which include erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and hematokrit. The blood for serological and blood test was drawn from a total of 30 turi ducks. Kit Pastorex® was used in serological test to determine whether toksoplasmosis infection exist or not and erythrocyte examination using blood mixed with antikoagulase was conducte to observe erythrocyte number, Hb, and Pcv. The results showed that 53.3 % of the ducks were positively infected by toksoplasmosis, while the eythrocyte morphology, Hb, and Pcv examinations resulted in no significant differences between the infected and uninfected ducks. This study concludes that Toxoplasma gondii is able to infect ducks with high prevalention levels and that the toksoplasmosis can be transmitted from ducks to humans and other animals.
