description | Introduction . Lens of the eye is an organ that is very sensitive to the influence of radiasi. Radiation dose by 0.5 to 2 Gray ( 50-200 rads ) will cause opacity, moderate exposure is more than 4 Gray ( 400 rads ) cause visual disturbances secondary to katarak. The use of MSCT scans for patient examination in aiding the diagnosis of a disease or pathology is increasingly rising, it should also be noted that the effects of radiation caused, both to the patient and attendant radiologi. The impact of MSCT scan radiation effect immediately and further effects for the patient. No matter how small the dose of radiation received in the examination process used imaging modality for patients, should consider the amount of radiation exposure received, by shortening the time of exposure, distance from the radiation source or by using protective equipment ( shielding ).
Materials and methods. This study was a cross sectional analytic observational exposure to compare the radiation dose received by the eye wear shielding ( lead glasses ) with a thickness of 0,35 mm using a shielding ( lead glasses ) thickness of 0,5 mm at the time of MSCT scan of the thorax. The data taken from adult patients who underwent MSCT scan of the thorax with and without contrast, at the request of the clinician. All subjects were divided into 2 groups: group I checked using a shielding thickness of 0,35 mm ( MSCT examination of the thorax without contrast ) and group II examined using a shielding thickness of 0,5 mm ( MSCT examination of the thorax with contrast). This research was performed at the Radiology General Hospital Center (RSUP) Dr. Sardjito. When the study began in February 2014 until March 2014. Statistical tests in this study using the Wilcoxon test, because the distribution of the data are not normal.
Results. According to this study there were no significant differences between the magnitude of the radiation dose to the eye at the time of MSCT examination of the thorax with a 0,35 mm Pb shielding eyes and eyes with 0,5 mm Pb shielding. The mean radiation dose received by the eye at the time of MSCT scan of the thorax by means of shielding 0,35 mm was 1,268 mGy, whereas the average dose received by the eye at the time of MSCT scan of the thorax by using a shielding of 0,5 mm is 1.024 mGy. There was a decrease radiation dose by 23,82 % between taking shielding 0,35 mm compared to 0,5 mm using shielding.
Conclusion. From the results obtained it MSCT scan of the thorax examination is necessary to use a shielding glass eye in the eye with a minimum thickness of 0.35 mm to lower the radiation dose received by the organ. |
