description The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of playing ensamble music in enchancing students assertive behavior in sight reading learning. The participants were 32 students of musical education institution, aged 11-15 years old, who had low capability in reading block notation. The study was done by using quasi experimental by 16 people as the number of the experimental group, and 16 people for the control group. Ensemble music playing was given in five 60-75 minutes meetings. The design of the study used untreated control group design with pretest and posttest. Assertive behavior in learning the sight reading was measured by using assertive behavior scale in learning the sight reading. The data analysis used was t-test. The result of the study showed that ensemble music playing could increase assertive behavior in sight reading learning of students in musical education institution, t = 3.083 dan p = 0.0004 (p<0.05).
