Summary: | The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the addition of
flour banana tuber in commercial feed on growth rate, total cholesterol, HDL and
LDL in the blood of broiler chickens. The method of research used Completely
Randomizad Design Nested Classification using experimental animals broiler
strain CP 707 as much as 50 animals were divided into five types of feed
treatment, namely K commercial feed, P1 commercial feed mixed flour banana
tuber 10 %, P2 commercial feed mixed flour banana tuber 20 %, P3 commercial
feed mixed flour banana tuber 30 %, P4 commercial feed mixed flour banana
tuber 40 %. Then observed feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion,
and total cholesterol, HDL, and LDL blood of broiler chickens. The data obtained
is then processed by analysis of variance using SPSS and Microsoft Excel 2007.
Conclusions obtained from this study, administration of flour banana tuber in
commercial diets for broilers and increase the average feed consumption was not
affected significantly ( P > 0.05 ) on growth rate during the maintenance as well
as reduce the level of feed efficiency ( FCR ) although this effect was not
significant ( P > 0.05 ). Banana tuber flour significantly ( P < 0.05 ) towards
decreased levels of HDL in the blood of broiler chickens, but no significant effect
( P > 0.05) reduction in LDL and total cholesterol levels in the blood of broiler
chickens. Flour banana tuber can be a mixture of alternative feed on commercial
feed for broiler chickens with the ideal percentage between 20 % to 30 % which
will result in FCR values between 1.70 ± 0.11 to 1.74 ± 0.07 with and cholesterol
total blood between 89.3 ± 11.7 mg / dl to 89.5 ± 6.1 mg / dl.
