description | The research aims to analyze the attempt of building peace in post conflict and post
disaster condition, which is implemented by Sekolah Sukma Bangsa in Pidie District
through education. Its major purpose is to generate less violence and peaceful
characters. Furthermore, the most important aim is to educate conflict resolution for the
children as the embodiment of world peace. For seven years Sekolah Sukma Bangsa has
had been educating the Pidie�s children as a humanitarian response of 30 years of
military emergency and the impact of tsunami in Aceh. The situation of Aceh under the
shadow of those 30 years of military emergency and traumatic event of a massive natural
disaster caused children in Aceh were not able to reach education at schools because
most of them had been destroyed as the targets of destruction throughout the conflict.
This condition became more severe because of the natural disaster as well. Eventually,
conflict and disaster made Aceh in the lowest grade in education. Furthermore,
psychological condition of the children who are the most vulnerable victims became the
major concern. The fact that Children in Aceh were accustomed to violence and the
negative condition for 30 years obviously needed a particular design of education, which
was different from other places in Indonesia. The urgency of peace education to scrape
the characters of tolerating violence is urgently needed in Aceh, therefore SSB Pidie with
its school-based management that gave the school an authority to design and also to
institutionalize the peace education curriculum, the School-Based Conflict Management
and 3NO programs. School-Based Conflict Management and 3NO program aimed to
achieve the positive and peaceful condition. For collecting the data, the researcher had
done an independent study in the field for one month to collect the data to know what is
the peace education curriculum SSB Pidie has and how it is implemented and the last is
what are the gaps between the curriculum and the implementation.
