| description | Pesticides are an important material for eradicating pests and diseases in
the farming and animal husbandry sectors. The incorrect use of pesticides can
lead to many problems, one of which is residue of these pesticides found in feed
products. This study aims to understand the factors which are associated with the
exposure to deltamethrin residue in broiler chickens in the Pakem and Turi
districts, Sleman.
Blood, heart, and muscle samples were collected from 151 broiler
chickens across 25 farms in the Pakem and Turi districts, Sleman. Testing of
deltamethrin residue was conducted by the Pharmacology Laboratorium,
Veterinary Medicine Faculty, Gadjah Mada University. Questionnaires and
interview were used to collect data about farm management systems at the fields.
Analysis of the data was done with Chi-squared tests, followed by a Odds Ratio
analysis to determine which farming management practices were statistically
significant.
The result showed that there was significant relationship between
exposure of deltamethrin and several factors of farm managements (P<0,1).
Factors that contributed to the incident of deltamethrin residues were the absence
of feeding sheds (OR=2,32), water source from the river (OR=0,53), lack of
control of environment within the cages (OR=3,86), each farms hired an
unlimited number of employers (OR= it can�t be counted), the absence of control
dirty farm and surroundings (OR=3,86), medical treatment of chickens conducted
by people other than qualified veterinarians (OR= it can�t be counted), the
location of cages in relation to rice fields or gardens (OR=0,4). |
