Description
Summary:Background : Preeclampsia and eclampsia are the major leading cause of both maternal and perinatal death worldwide, especially in developing countries. The prevalence of both preeclampsia andeclamsia was 2.8 % in developing countries and 0,6% in developed countries. On 2011, eclampsia was place on second highest (24%) among major direct causes of maternal death in Indonesia. Excessive maternal weight gain was reported to influenced the incidence of preeclampsia/eclampsia. Due to this conjecture, research about maternal weight gain is requiered in order to prevent and decrease incidence of preeclampsia/eclampsia. Objective : The main purpose of this study was to investigate relationship between maternal weight gain in third trimester with incidence of severe preeclampsia and eclampsia in RSUP Dr. Sardjito and RSKIA Sadewa Yogyakarta. Methods : It is a an observational study with case control design. Subjects are pregnant women in RSUP Sardjito and RSKIA Sadewa Yogyakarta registered from December 2013 until April 2014. There were 84 pregnant women joined this study. Maternal weight gain in third trimester and preeclampsia/eclampisa diagnosis data was determined by medical doctors. Hypothesis test was conducted using t-Test to percieved if there are mean difference within case an control group. Chi-square was used to determined the relationship between independent and dependent variables. Result : Based on t-Test result, the mean difference between maternal weight gain in third trimester from both case and control group was 3.571 ± 1.051 kg (p=0,0011). Based on Chi-Square test revealed, there is relationship between maternal weight gain in third trimester with the incidence of severe preeclampsia and eclamsia (p<0,001). Conclusion : There are a significant influence between maternal weight gain in third trimester with the incidence of severe preeclampsia and eclamsia in RSUP Sardjito and RSKIA Sadewa Yogyakarta
