| description | Toxoplasmosis is a disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii. This bacterium
is classified in the phylum Apicomplexa, class Sporozoa, subclass Coccidia, order
Euucoccidia, suborder Eimeria, family Sarcocystidae, dan genus Toxoplasma. It
is a zoonotic disease which can affect both humans and animals. Occurrence of
toxoplasmosis in animals including chicken is associated with toxoplasmosis
transmission which is easily spread through food or water contaminated by T.
gondii oocytes derived from the feces of cats that sporulated in the environment.
Toxoplasma gondii has several stages including tachyzoites, bradyzoites, oocysts,
schizonts and gametes. This study aims to determine the histology of the liver,
spleen and lung of chickens which infected by 500.000 T. gondii tachyzoites into
0,5 ml PBS/chicken. This research involved 36 broiler chickens were grouped into
3 groups. Group A was infected with T. gondii through injection in intravenous,
group B was infected with T. gondii through injection in subcutaneous, and group
C as control (non-infected). Chickens were infected after being adapted for two
weeks. Liver, spleen, and lung were taken out after necropsy at the day 2, 4, 8, 12,
16 and 26 post infections. Histology preparation samples were made at BBVET
Wates and the histology examination was performed at Pathology laboratory,
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UGM. Histopathologic changes of data were
analyzed descriptively. The results showed that liver, spleen, and lung of chicken
in group B indicated the occurrence of congestion, but there were no cysts of T.
gondii, whereas in group A and C were not showing histological changes of the
organs. As the conclusion, there were no specific pathological changes leading to
toxoplasmosis and there were no cyst found in the organs. The suggestions are to
extend the time for the research, more cut on histology sample, doing parallel
research (serologic) and PCR test. |
