description Periodontal dressing is a material which used to cover the wound after periodontal surgery. Enhancing periodontal dressing function as a wound healing agent could be done with the addition of potent wound healing substance, such as green tea catechins. Fibroblast migration plays and important roles in wound healing. Recent studies had shown that catechins can accelerate healing process while the other studies reported that catechins inhibited fibroblast migration. Due to the variety of results, this study aimed to investigate the effect of 10% green tea catechins addition in periodontal dressing on human primary fibroblast migration. Baer�s periodontal dressing with 10% green tea catechins addition (PDC), Baer�s periodontal dressing (PD), and Coe-Pak� (CP) were used in this study. Each periodontal dressing was immersed in saliva for 24 hours, then added into incised human primary fibroblast suspension in well-plate. After 24 and 72 hours incubation, the suspension was stained with hematoxylin mayer. The human primary fibroblast migration were measured by calculating the percentage cell migration (%). Data were analyzed by MANOVA, LSD and Independent T Test. Statistical analysis showed there were significant differences (p<0.05) of percentage human primary fibroblast migration among CP, PD, and PDC. PDC shown the lowest cell migration percentage whether in 24 or 72 hours incubation. This study concluded that 10% green tea (Camellia sinensis) catechins addition in periodontal dressing decelerate human primary fibroblast migration.
