Summary:Background: First pregnancy is important and unforgettable experience. Maternal mortality rate in Indonesia was 359/100.000 pregnancies in 2012. Physical and psychological changes in pregnancy may cause anxiety among pregnant women. Psychological burden in pregnancy is more common in the third trimester primigravida. Medication and exercise during pregnancy can reduce discomfort in pregnant women. Pregnancy exercise can reduce anxiety in the third trimester primigravida. Objective:To determine the effectiveness of pregnancy exercise on anxiety level in the third trimester primigravida in Palembang. Methods: a quasi experimental pretest and posttest nonequivalent control group design was used in this study with quantitative andqualitative approaches. Purposive sampling was used in this study divided into 2 groups, 52 treatment group and 52 control group and qualitative analysis to strengthen the results of the study with in depth interviews for 6 participants. Results:The results showed that the mean of anxiety on pretest was 39.92 and posttest 33.65. P value of the study was 0.001 (p <0.05). There is a significant decrease of anxiety level between pre-and post pregnancy exercise. Otherwise, the anxiety level in the control group pretest to posttest didn�t decrease. The results of the qualitative analysis among pregnant women after pregnancy exercise showed that they feel more comfortable and less anxious facing the labor. Conclusion:Pregnancy exercise was significantly reduce anxiety level among third trimester primigravida.
