Samenvatting: | Short story 'Jiha>d' is part of the anthology the Qat}ara>tun minad-Dumu>�i
written by Sami>rah bintul-Jazi>ratil-�Arabiyyati. This short story tells the story of
Jiha>d, a daughter of a merchant, who want to work after his father�s store burned
down by a fire. However, her father did not allow because the tradition in her country
did not allow women to work. As a creation, short story is structure that consists of
elements which are inter-related. Thus, the short story of 'Jiha>d' is analyzed using
structural theories to determine intrinsic elements contained therein as well as the
linkages between that elements. The method used in this research is method of
structural analysis. This analysis is used to elaborate the elements of intrinsic and
between an elements linkages.
After doing some research, found that the theme in the short story 'Jiha>d' is
the struggles of a woman who solidified her right in the world of work in order to
break traditions down that forbid women to work in public sphere. The main
character in this short story is Jiha>d and additional figures is Syaikh�s �Ali and
â��AdnÄ�n aá¹-T{ayyib. Grooves used in this short story plot forward is outlined in five
stages. The background of this short story is a place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Setting
time in this short story is approximately 1979 based on the copyright of this
anthology, while the social setting in the short story is a society that does not support
Saudi Arabia women to work in public sphere. Point of view that was used in this
