Description
Summary:In manufacturing sector was found much component needed effective and efficient of welding method. So that welding process had to with lower cost for carry out joined some materials, such as joined shaft with shaft. Then welding process which could apply was friction welding. Therefore it was needed the research to joint the solid ST60. From material welded could find mechanical and physic properties after pass through several testing. Material ST60 was used in research. This material was joined used lathe machine, the spindle must rotation 1100 rpm in velocity up to the material surface become friction and joined. The specimen was through test for metallographic, hardness test and tensile test. The metallography test was done recognize the microstructure and the hardness test was conducted to obtain the hardness distribution in the base metal, in the HAZ region, and in the welding metal. Analyses for the value of hardness in the three region namely, base metal, HAZ, and welding metal will be related to the change in microstructure. But the increase the temperature effection the upset value become larger and the sample become shorter. Friction welding method can applied for the joint solid steel ST60. The microstructure in the joining was found size change that mean there is change in mechanical properties. The hardness of welding metal become increase from 205 VHN until 233 VHN. And then for tensile strength become increase from six specimen averages are 75,208 kg/mm2.
