description Banana (Musa paradisiaca L.) peel has properties to accelerate the wound healing process. To facilitate its use, banana peel extract is formulated in a gel dosage form with combination of carbopol and HPMC base. The use of such combinations is known to produce a gel that has the best physical properties than the single use. This study aims to determine the optimal formula with a combination of carbopol and HPMC on the basis of physical properties and physical stability of banana peel extract gel during storage. Banana peel extract macerated using ethanol 70%. The extract was tested in the form of organoleptic quality, drying shrinkage, phytochemical test, adhesion, and dispersive power. Gel is made with 4% concentration of extract and a variety of combinations carbopol and HPMC base. The resulting gel was tested physical properties (organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, dispersive power, adhesion, and viscosity), then determined the optimum formula using SLD (simplex lattice design) method. Optimal formula gel banana peel extracts were then tested for their physical stability for 4 weeks. The results were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA level of 95%. Optimum formula gel banana peel extract obtained containing 2.00% carbopol and 0.50% HPMC. Based on the results of the verification, prediction of the optimum formula from SLD method is reliable. Banana peel extract gel physically stable for 4 weeks of storage.
