Summary: | Coastal forest ecosystem has a wealth and diverse potential of natural
resources and environmental services so that it is exploited so much for utilization
activities. Petanahan beach is one of the coastal forest ecosystems which have
been used for tourism and agricultural activities. The development of land use
activities which does not appropriate with the environmental capacity can reduce
the ecological function of the ecosystem so that it can also reduce the economic
value of the Petanahan coastal forest. The purpose of this study is to determine the
ecological condition of coastal forests in Petanahan and to access whether both of
the tourism and agricultural activities which have been done, are appropriate to be
developed in the coastal forest ecosystems in Petanahan.
This research was conducted in the coastal forest ecosystems at

areas into three sections based on its distance to the beach, which were Part I is
close distance (0-185 m), Part II is moderate distance (185-365 m), and Part III is
long distance (365-548 m). The data were taken e.g.: (1) the structure and
