| Summary: | HIV/AIDS patients with antiretroviral therapy need adherence to achieve a
successful therapy. The aim of this study was to evaluate antiretroviral therapy
adherence and reasons that can cause non-adherence in HIV/AIDS patients at
Polyclinic Edelweis RSUP Dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta
This study was a non experimental (descriptive) study. Data were derived
from questionnaire that fulfilled by 76 home care HIV/AIDS patients who were
filled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Patient adherence was measured by
SMAQ (Simplified Medication Adherence Questionnaire) and the reasons that
cause non-adherence is achieved by ACTG (AIDS Clinical Trial Group)
Adherence Baseline Questionnaire. Then the data were analyzed descriptively.
The result of the study showed that 45 patients (59,21%) were adherent
and 31 patients (40,79%) were non-adherent. Three main reasons that cause non
adherence in 28 non-adherent patients were feeling sleepy after taking medicine
(41,67%), having problems after taking medicine in the particular time (33,33%),
and feeling depressed (29,76%).
