Summary: | Jakarta Globe, 30 June 2009, more than half from several students in Jakarta
never heard about the black history of Indonesia in 1965-1966. They never know about
the massive murdered of Partai Komunis Indonesia (Indonesian Communist Party). In
Indonesian history still written that the communists are the rebel who want to change
the state�s ideology, Pancasila. All that we know just communist is the bad, and they
have to be destroyed. Young people who hate but doesn�t know much about the another
version is the modern victim of history.
Mwathirika� is a puppet theater performance from Papermoon Puppet Theater.
It record memories through another version, beside the state�s version. It tells about
two family who live in peace eventhough they are in different political side. This show
is a new way to presentated rememoration discourse. This research will describe the
retelling process about the history of 1965 tragedy in a different perspective through
puppet theatre
History often connected with the state political interests. The fact is, history are
used and abused by state to legitimate the authority. History is the winner�s, but each
people have their own memories. And some of their memories are distinguish because
of their memories are not in the same line of state interests. This forgotten memories
are the one that have to striven for. Because each people have the right to have their
own memories and free to tell their own story. Papermoon make this puppet
performance, as an art, to tell some of the forgotten memories � through their point of
view. Puppet performance can be a good way to tell the history of 1965, without
considered as a taboo in Indonesia.
