description Phthalic anhydride is the intermediate product that mainly used as plasticizer. Plasticiziers used as flexible layer production such as, wallpaper and upholstery fabric from brittle polymer. Beside that, phthalic anhydride also used as unsaturated polyester resins, alkyd resins production and many more.. Phthalic anhydride production consists of 5 steps. First step is raw material (o-xylene and air) preparation. O-xylene and air would be heated and pressured up to 350oC and 6 atm before enter the reactor. Second step is oxidation process inside the fixed bed multitube reactor with catalyst loading. Third step is the reactor�s product condensation that occur inside switch condenser. Fourth step is product purification with aging tank and distillation coloumn. Last step is the product solidification process using flaker. Phthalic anhydride flake would be saved in bin before packaging process. The plant is designed with a capacity of 80,000 tons/year or 10080 kg/hour. The phthalic anhydride product with 99,8% purity is produced from 9753,84 kg/hout o-xylene. Utilities includes water as much as 36.864,34 kg/hour and 306,93 kW electrical power. The plant is planned to be established in Cilegon, Banten Province, with an area of 3 hectares. Total employees are needed as much as 193 people. The calculation results the economic evaluation parameters obtained as follows: Fixed Capital Investment (FCI) of Rp163,935,200,000.00 and U.S.$49,300,000.00
