Summary: | Deterioration of relations between two countries which have the same claims to the same
region often cause conflict. The main dispute of Takeshima Island (Liancourt Rocks) claims
between South Korea and Japan are its sovereignity status, in which both countries makes claim
based on the geographical and historical connectivity over ownership of the island.
The main purpose of this research is to know how Japanese and South Korean diplomatic
efforts in resolving the Takeshima Island dispute. The method used in conducting this research is
the Inferential Statistic that aims to describe the phenomenon of the diplomatic efforts between
Japan and South Korea in resolving the dispute over Takeshima Island claims. The data
collection used in this method consist of literature study, articles, magazines, newspapers,
journals, and newsletters. The Internet is also an important source on matters relating with the
issues being examined by the author.
As a conclusion of this research, negotiation between Japan and South Korea is one of the
main diplomatic efforts to resolve the dispute over Takeshima Island. Meetings between leaders
of both countries also played an important role for good relations and cooperation between both
countries despite the inability to resolve this conflict at current times.
