Description
Summary:This study discusses the use and translation of relative pronoun preceded by ce in the French sentence. Material object of this research is Albert Camus's novel, La Peste. The theory used to analyze the data is syntactic theory (particularly on grammar les pronoms relatifs) and the theory of translation by Catford. Relative pronoun preceded by ce serves as a substitute of the subject or object in the sentence. Hence, the placement is always in the front or in the middle of a sentence, and never located at the end of the sentence. Relative pronoun preceded by ce is divided into two types, namely: preceded by a preposition and not preceded by a preposition. Translating relative pronoun preceded by ce can be adapted to the context of the discourse, whereas, the dominant translation to Indonesian of ce qui / ce que / ce qu'/ ce dont on in this study is 'apa yang'.
