Summary: | The increasing of wood demand and the decreasing of wood supply cause
the human choosing the kind of woods which have a bad quality. Therefore, to
improve the durability of wood is needs to be done the preservation activity. The
purpose of this research is to knows the influence of preservative concentration
the maximum duration of wood-soaking on preservation of wood to prevent dry
wood termite Cryptotermes cynocephalus Light.
The raw material used is mahogany with sample size of 5 x 5 x 3
centimeters. Type of preservative used is Deltametrine Wood Protectant. Pickling
is done by soaking the sample in the preservative solution at three concentration
level is 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3%. ample immersed in a preservative solution for 15
minutes, 30 minutes, and 45 minutes. Furthermore, wood sample of which have
been preserved is measured the absorption and retention, then mounted tubes with
a diameter of 3 centimeters and a height ± 4 centimeters and fed on dry wood
termites and in each tube is filled 50 tail termites. The attack carried during 4
weeks to find out the value of termite mortality, weight loss, the degree of
damage, and to determine the effectiveness of preservatives.
The result showed that the interaction between the factor of concentration
and immersion time preservatives showed a sighnificant influence on the
absorption values, but has no the actual retention, mortality, weight loss, and the
degree of damage. In this study, the interaction between the preservative
concentration of 0.1% and a 15 minutes immersion time already provide affective
result to inhibit the activity of dry wood termite attack on wood mahogany with a
value of 100% termite mortality.
