Summary: | The Government of Semarang City took a further step to reduce the traffic jam by
operating Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Trans-Semarang as a mass public transportation that would
be able to give better service with time precision and comfort to passengers. The operation of
BRT Trans-Semarang could not be separated from the supporting shelter infrastructure. The
location of shelter could affect the passengers range. The location of a shelter was deemed
effective when it estimated the buildings and attraction around the passengers range. This
research was done in Semarang City. It aimed (a) to identify the existing shelter of BRT Trans
Semarang (b) to describe the social economic condition of the community that could affect the
demand domination (c) to describe the users range against the shelter location.
The methods used in this research were surveys and direct surveillance with
questionnaire as interview tools to muster the primary data and information. Data was obtained
using the purposive sampling in 18 shelters from 69 pairs that spread in 2 corridors.
Respondents samples were determined by using the sampling quota with total of 250
respondents.
The results of the research were qualitative descriptions. Description results were also
supported by a passengers range map analysis of BRT users against the location of shelter. The
results were (a) there were 69 pairs of shelters that spread in 2 way corridors BRT Trans
Semarang. The location of shelter was affected by buildings and the attractions around it. (b)
most of BRT users were community of 14-27 years old average with low income ranged from 0
2.000.000 IDR and most of them were students, scholar, private employees to enterpreneur. Not
all social economic conditions affect the BRT users per week. (c) most shelters that located in
downtown had buffer range from 0 400 meters. In the other hand, the shelters that became the
main travel node were more variative in range pattern |
