Summary: | Human population explosion is a common phenomenon encountered in all
parts of the world now, including Indonesia. The rapid population growth
encourage new social problems such as poverty, hunger, rising crime, squalor, and
other issues. One of the urban problems is often encountered as a result of rapid
population growth is slums. One example of slums in major cities are located in
village Juminahan at Yogyakarta. Juminahan village physical condition is
sporadic environment, lack of infrastructure, lack of accessibility and mobility,
and poor environmental quality. Yogyakarta City Government has provided a
solution to build vertical housing, but unfortunately residents of Kampung
Juminahan denied to live in vertical housing and prefer to live in slums.
Therefore, this study tried to find information about factors causing the low
interest of citizens to inhabit in vertical housing.
This study uses quantitative deductive method. Deductive approach is used
to refer theories that have associated about low interest of citizens to live in
vertical housing. Quantitative methods using Chi Square and ordinal logistic
regression to find the correlataion and effect of each factor that influence citizens
to live in vertical housing. This study involved 92 respondents who are villagers
of juminahan village and RW 13.
There are seven factors that have been associated with the citizens interest
to live at vertical housing. One of the factors that have a correlation and have the
highest influence is a factor derived from the condition of the vertical housing
itself. Factor that have affect is vertical house building quality is not much
different than building in slums. So for the construction of vertical housing
further, government needs to pay attention to the quality of the vertical house
buildings. So the public perception will not arise if the quality of vertical housing
are not much different than slums.
