description Background: Anemia is a serious public health problem that affects more than 600 million people in the world. Anemia can be caused by hemorrhagic, low intake of iron, increased need of iron and impaired iron absorption. Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between total lactic acid bacteria and Escherichia coli in fecal and hemoglobin levels In elementary school children. Method: This was an observational studywith cross sectional design. Subject were 30 students of class 3, 4 and 5 Dekso 1 Elementary School Kalibawang, Kulon Progo. Independent variable including total lactic acid bacteria and E. Coli in fecal. Dependent variable of this study is hemoglobin levels. Data of total lactic acid bacteria and E. Coli is obtained by bacteria enumeration using Total Plate Count (TPC) method. Data hemoglobin levels obtained by examination of blood samples using Hemocue. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation. Result: Mean of data total lactic acid bacteria is 7,56 log CFU/g. Mean of data total E. Coli is 7,04 log CFU/g. Total lactic acid bacteria and E. Coli counted on normal number for healthy people. Mean of data hemoglobin levels is 15,27 g/dl. All of subject have normal hemoglobin levels. There was no significant association between total lactic acid bacteria in fecal and hemoglobin levels. There was no significant association between Escherichia coli in fecal and hemoglobin levels. Conclusion: There was no significant association between total lactic acid bacteria and Escherichia coli in fecal and hemoglobin levels in elementary school children
