Description
Summary:Avocado oil (MBA) is one of the functional oil that has many benefits for human health and cosmetics. MBA is a high quality oil and high price oil, so it is possible to be adulterated with other edible oils that have lower in price such as palm oil (MKS) and canola oil (MK). From these reasons, the authentication of MBA is become very important to ensure the authenticity and quality of MBA. MBA is obtained by exctracting finely ground samples of dried avocado pulp (mesocarp) using percolation extraction method with hexane as the solvent. Authentication of MBA is evaluated with FTIR spectroscopy method using attenuated total reflectance (ATR) in combined with chemometrics. The chemometrics analysis consists of a qualitative analysis using principal component analysis (PCA) and a quantitative analysis using partial least square (PLS) and principal component regression (PCR). Qualitative analysis using PCA at frequency region 1260-900 cm-1 can separate MBA, MKS, and MK. FTIR spectroscopy combined with chemometrics multivariate calibrations build the good model to ensure the avocado oil (MBA) authenticity. Combination of FTIR spectroscopy with PLS using normal spectra at frequency region 1260-900 cm-1 is selected to assess the authenticity of MBA that is adulterated in binary mixtures with MKS, with R2 0,9996
