Description
Summary:Automation for integrated EDM and ECM machinery has made for developing EDM and ECM hybrid machine before. Machining processes divide into three processes, EDM only, ECM only, and integrated EDM and ECM. In this research, using integrated process is needed for improve surface roughness from the EDM process. EDM process has unstable intensity and shocking current so the erosion on work pieces has high variance. From that case, ECM process that has stable intensity and no shocking current is needed in order to improve surface roughness. In this research, machining test has been done to find the influence of variance voltage with surface roughness, depth of cut, and material removal rate using EDM, ECM, and integrated EDM-ECM. Brass electrode and stainless steel is used from each processes. Another important parameter used for this processes is voltage, which is 20, 25, and 30 volt. The result for surface roughness in EDM process indicated that the smallest average is 102 μm on 20 volt, meanwhile for ECM and integrated EDM-ECM processes are 55.33 μm and 65.33 μm. For overcut, in EDM process indicated that the smallest average is 0,03947 millimeter on 20 volt, meanwhile for ECM and integrated EDM-ECM processes are same, 0,6 millimeter. Beside that, for material removal rate, in EDM process indicated that the highest average is 0.000163 g/s on 30 volt, meanwhile for ECM and integrated EDM-ECM processes are 0.00175 g/s and 0.00166 g/s.
