Description
Summary:Fiber reinforced composite is a non metal dental material consisting of a combination of polymer matrix and reinforcing fiber. Natural fiber has experienced rapid growth in its use in FRC due to the low cost and renewability of the fiber. Acidic conditions (H+) cause a decrease in the molecular mass of FRC which reduces the mechanical strength. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of the degree of acidity in the tensile strength of FRC with Agave sisalana. The research material is a FRC with Agave sisalana consisting of flowable composite matrices (Masterflow, Brazil) and Agave sisalana fiber (Balittas, Malang). The study sample dimensions are 32 mm long, 10 mm width and 2 mm thick, with a total of 12 pieces divided into 3 groups, namely: group 1 with soaking medium of pH 2.4, group 2 with a medium of pH 4.9 and group 3 with pH 7.4. Samples were soaked in the medium at 37º C for 7 days. The tensile strength was measured by a universal testing machine and statistically analyzed using ANOVA and LSD test. The results showed that the average tensile strength of FRC with Agave sisalana in group 1 was 10.580 ± 0.761 MPa, group 2 showed an average of 14.565 ± 0.407 MPa and group 3 yielded the result of 16.677 ± 0.457 MPa. ANOVA test result showed that there was a significant effect of the tensile strength on the immersion medium with pH of 2.4
