Summary: | One of local chickens cultivations that are encountered is the ornamental chickens. Ornamental chicken is cultivated to get a unique shape, beautiful plumage, and melodious crowing sound. Poland chicken is one of chicken races that has a crest on its head. So, it is called crested chicken. However, production of chicken are difficult, because the rate of its growth are slow. In this research there was an innovation to get a uniqe ornamental chicken strains that derived from cross-breeding of Poland chicken and free-range chicken. The purpose of this research was to study crest inheritance, polymorphism of HOXC8 gene and chicken growth during seven week. The methods used in this research was crossing Poland chicken with local chicken in KP4 UGM, Kalitirto, Sleman, Yogyakarta. Weight measurement was carried out every week for seven weeks. Isolation of DNA from the blood of chickens were done to analysis the gene polymorphism of HOXC 8 by using Restriction Fragment Length Polimorfism (RFLP) with restriction enzyme HindIII, EcoRI and BamHI. The results of this study showed that Filial (F1) derived from crossing between Local chicken 1 and Poland chicken has a character to inherit the veterinary stem while intersecting local chicken 2 and Poland Chicken, does not confer the Crest phenotype characters. The result of HOXC8 gene polymorfhism showed that there was no polymorphism between crested and non crested chiscken with restriction enzyme HindIII, EcoRI, and BamHI. Conclusions of this research were variation in female local chicken can inhibit the phenotype expression, so it can cause the atavisme
