description The power optimization of CO2 laser photoacoustic spectrometer has been conducted. Then CO2 laser spectrometer photoacoustic is used for detection ethylene gas concentration at smoker and exsmoker with participants of 20. The highest ethylene concentration for smoker is 5,277 ppm, and exsmoker is 1,558 ppm while the lowest ethylene concentration for smoker is 1,749 ppm and ex-smoker is 0,009 ppm. The average of ethylene gas concentration of 3,873 ppm is produced by smoker and of 0,822 ppm by ex-smoker. This result of suggests that there is no effect of age on the ethylene gas concentration of the breath of smokers and ex-smokers.
