Summary:Public opinion is an accumulation of the image that is created or invented in the communication process. Kompas.com has a special section for reviewing the media�s coverage related to Basuki or Ahok�s activity as Vice Governor of Jakarta, including the controlling of Tanah Abang market vendors. The object of this research is the opinion reflected from news reader's comments, with the purpose to see the trend of public opinion towardAhok�s image portrayed by Kompas.com. The results showed that the preferences of public opinion towardAhok�s image in relation to the policing towards street vendors Tanah Abang Market is positive, or supportive to his figure. The majority of readers considered that Ahok is a person who firmly adheres to the rules and regulations. Although occasionally his direct expressions invite controversy, he is still considered a desirable leader to bring change for Jakarta. There are several factors that influence public opinion towardAhok�s image associated with the control of Tanah Abang Market vendors, including: (1) psychological factorthat leads to different interpretationsand responses to the news
