Summary: | The number of accidents happened in Ciamis for the 3 (three) last years had been increase and cause the number of casualties (dead, wounded, minor injuries). From the data which is obtained, it can be noted that one of the roads there were frequent occurrences of accidents is Sudirman Street Km 2.8-3.9. Conditions of traffic flow and speed on the road of Sudirman is quite high due to its function as an arterial road as well as national road, but the land use in the vicinity of the roads which include retail, residential, offices, schools and places of worship are causing of conflicts and traffic problems especially in the field of road safety, the driver's safety as well as good pedestrian safety.
The aims of this research is to improve the level of safety in traffic either for the driver as well as for pedestrians on Sudirman road. It is implemented by performing observation and identification of existing condition along sudirman roads include road performance conditions, conditions of traffic safety and pedestrian conditions on the roads, so that the obtained proposals based on the results of analysis data handlers that have collected primary data and good secondary data.
The results showed that the high incidence of accidents on roads Sudirman in ciamis was largely caused by a fault of the human factor that influenced by road geometric design of existing condition, the level of law enforcement and the high flow of vehicles that through local access on Ciung Wanara road and Tunjungsari. Hence, its necessary a social approach in the form of increased alertness and safety for the driver and also need a technical approach (engineering) in the form of right-lanes limiting along 900 meter to restrict the local access roads which disturb the flow of traffic on major roads and lanes affirmation of traffic rules and the construction of facilities for pedestrians crossing that could protect the safety and comfort of users.
