Summary: | This study examines the relation of power in the formation of hybrid
identities in the transmigration areas of Nagan Raya district. Hybrid identity in
transmigration areas may occur as a result of mixing two different identities
between Javanese migrants and Acehnese during the period of interaction between
them. And the relationship between these two communities continue to have ups
and downs as the social, economic, and political situation in Aceh. The objectives
to be achieved is to look at the process of identity formation dynamics of hybrid
and map the relationship between migrants and the people of Aceh.
To achieve the objectives of the study, used the theory of Homi Bhaba
hybrid identity that helps to see a hybrid identity can be established through a
third space (third place). The third room is the religion of Islam which became a
space for the formation of hybrid identities through ritual and celebration of
important days of Islam that can unite two very different identities, namely Aceh
and Java through peaceful and non-violent way. In addition, this study also uses
Gramsci's theory of hegemony to assist in seeing the changes in the form of
interaction between the people of Aceh and migrants who shifted from a form of
interaction in the form of cultural domination occurs when the Aceh conflict and
turned into a cultural hegemony after the conflict ended.
This study used a qualitative research method using a case study approach
that aims to learn more about the process of the formation of hybrid identities in
Nagan Raya through observation, interview and documentation.
The findings for this study indicate that the power relations between the
Acehnese and Javanese transmigrants is hegemony that occur after the conflict
and the third space can be optimally used as a place for identity hybridization.
after the conflict ended. However, hybrid identities are formed not been able to
become a weapon for migrants in the area of electoral politics.
