Summary: | Wound dressing is a supporting component of wound healing that threat like a dress to protect wound from phisical, mechanical, biological, and chemical exposure that has potentially caused continues damage. The main objective of this research is for studying fabrication of nanofiber chitosan-pectin-PVA by electrospinning for wound dressing application. The purpose of this research is to open up for creating modern wound dressing based on chitosan-pectin-PVA material which can support of wound healing.
The fabrication of chitosan-pectin-PVA in this research has made by electrospinning. Fabrication step is made by mixed PVA as guest polymer with chitosan and pectin as material which can promote wound healing. The parameters of electrospinning such as: viscosity, conductivity, and surface tension have studied to understand their influences in the electrospinning process. Characterization step such as: SEM, FTIR, XRD, and swelling test have studied in this research to find out the characteristic of fiber that has been fabricating.
The results of fabrication step show that composisition PVA/kitosan-pectin can be fabricated until 60/40 (V/V) ratio which % concentration of chitosan-pectin is 16,67%. Parameters electrospinning study in this results reveal that a long with increasing chitosan-pectin composition: viscosity is decreasing influences diameter size, conductivity is increasing influences electrospinnability of soluiton polymer, surface tension is increasing influences beading formation. Characterization step in this research has got results: (1) SEM: Diamters size of fiber is in nanometer category (142,35 ± 25,11 nm until 70,00 ± 15,87 nm). (2) FTIR: The spectrums of FTIR show that there is amine group of chitosan and carboxyl group of pectin. The spectrums of FTIR also reveal, there are formations of polielectrolyte complex (PEC) in the wound dressing. (3) XRD: The spectrum XRD show that there are interactions between chitosan, pectin, and PVA molecules. The spectrum XRD also show that the fabrication results of nanofiber wound dressing is amorphous. (4) Swelling Test: The results of swelling ratio in this research are 90/10 = 589,12 ± 228,31 %, 80/20 = 521,44 ± 241,24 %, and 70/30 = 396,43 ± 107,61%. Based on the electrospinnanbility, functionability, charactrizations results, and % concentration chitosan-pectin in dressing, the best ratio of nanofiber composite chitosan-pectin-PVA is 70/30.
