Description
Summary:Spell is one of oral poetry form that still can be found in the middle of modern people live recently. It is not a rare fact that the spell becomes the identity of its owner. The same thing, then, happens in Ngancak ritual spell, observation material object, that is still maintain by Tempilang society in West Bangka, Bangka Belitung province up till now, although 80% of its people are the fanatic Muslim. The assimilation between ancestral beliefs and Islam that is embraced by majority of its people makes this incantation becomes very unique by combining Arabic prayers and Malay-Bangka magic spell. This thesis then attempts to connect the spell to another material object that is the social and cultural context which influenced the formation of Ngancak ritual spell structure. Besides, the writer also reviewed aspects of orality in the incantation through the Ruth Finnegans oral poetry framework of thinking, including spell composition and transmission process, language style and performance of incantation, Keman, as the spell speaker, and his position in society, audience, context and function of incantation and the last is the aesthetics and the idea of Tempilang communitys thoughts in Ngancak ritual spell. The method applied in collecting data related to this Ngancak ritual spell is through the implementation of interview, direct observation as well as literature search that deals with Ketupat War and Ngancak. Meanwhile to anayze the data, the authors utilizes the Finnegans theory as the writing thought framework after going through the process of transcription and transliteration in advance. Through a series of conducted analysis, it can be concluded that the Tempilang public is trying to preserve the legacy of their ancestors by continuing to hold the ritual of Ngancak every year. In addition, this incantation also serves to pray for the salvation of all citizens of the village in order to avoid the woes for a full year. The faith of Islam is poured in the form of necessary changes or improvisation toward the spell structures that used to be only in the form of ancient incantations to be charged prayers to the Divine.
