| Izvleček: | The research aims to show the relation between the process of remembering and
forgetting in life as a part of interaction with the past and the making of identity in
the present. This thesis offers an explanation of remembering and forgetting
which is used by the characters of the novel Monsieur Ibrahim et Les Fleurs du
Coran, the relation of both processes in the making of identity, and the messages
of the author which can be read from this novel. Theory of social remembering
from a sociologist Barbara Misztal is applied to help analyzing the problems in
this research. This theory offers an elucidation of the role of memory in human�s
life. In the end, the conclusion of this thesis is that remembering and forgetting
have a big role in the making of identity through the collective and personal
memory. But these two things of memory have different level in their role.
Collective memory has bigger influence than the personal memory in
remembering and forgetting. Thus the former has a bigger influence rather than
the latter in making of the human�s identity.
