| Summary: | Asthma education can increase asthma knowledge and improve asthma control.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of education that given by
pharmacist on asthma knowledge and asthma attack on Balai Kesehatan Paru
Masyarakat (BKPM) Magelang.
This is an experimental study with control group design with pretest-postest. We
make education and Asthma Knowledge Level Test first. Asthma Knowledge
Level Test is an asthma questionnaire that include 22 question about asthma.
Patient divided into two group : patient who received education (treatment group)
and patient without education (control group). Number of test subject 74 patients,
consisting of 37 patients treatment group and 37 patients control group. Providing
education in the treatment group performed once at first month and assessment of
asthma knowledge and asthma attack three months after education. Analysis of
statistical used were T-Test to see asthma knowledge and Wilcoxon to see
difference asthma attack before and after education in each group and Mann-
Whitney to see diffrence of asthma attack between treatment group and control
group.
Asthma Knowledge Level Test is a valid and relieble questionnaire. This study
conclude that education can increased asthma knowledge p=0,00 (α<0,05) and
decreased asthma attack p=0,00 (α<0,05). But decresed on asthma attack not only
because of education but it can affected by another factor.
