Summary:People activities are always related to transportation. Peoples and transport both develop in accordance with the increase of population and activities. The rapid development of transportation can be seen in air transport. Air transport is increasingly developed to support the regional and national economy. It is powered by the movement of people and goods are now more offended required at the time and costs for optimizing the economy. From the development of the airport functions, then came the aerotropolis concept which is an urban concept centered on the airport. In the previous research, Ayuningtyas (2013) defines aerotropolis as an independent urban area that has a function as an economic region that has a functional relationship and connected with the network system in an integrated regional infrastructure and centralized (airport city) and is a development of an airport. The emergence of the concept of aerotropolis is a form of integration between air transport with the development of the surrounding city. It is also because of the challenges that must accommodate airport business district that has access to or is connected directly to the global economic market. With deductive eksplorative inductive research approach and analytical methods of content analysis, this research focused on the formulation of the aerotropolis planning principles. This research is aimed to explore the aerotropolis concept by identifying the aerotropolis planning principles. This research was conducted with analyzing of aerotropolis planning concepts in 4 continents, Asia, Europe, America, and Africa, and by using the framework of aerotropolis by Kasarda as the founder of the idea of aerotropolis.
