| Summary: | One area said to be a historical district, if in the region there are elements of the
historical elements that make up character area (Kevin Lynch,1960). Rossi (1986) confirm
that the elements of the city was instrumental in form the historical character of an area with
the presence of historical background of the relationship in shaping the character of the area.
The locus of research in the area of Menteng Jakarta.
Background, Today, a reality that is taking place in a region that is Menteng which has
been flattered and rebuilt into a modern building and most of the buildings are protected class
C, or one building ( house ) that including in class A, Building (main), broken pieces, part by
part that may otherwise damage so before down.
With the lost of one of the historic building in trhe region will lead to changes in the regions
atmosphere, the loss of identity of the area formed by the visual character and activities (
Cohen ). If the demolition of old building is not immediately inhibited, feared someday future
generations can not longer see history or an area that is reflected is an environment proxies.
Research Methodology, will using evaluative approach, base on literature studies and
field studies, with theoritics conceptualization as agrand theory and research object seen
directly in the context. Device used to collect data in the field is based on the theory of
conservation of a historic district, this study will evaluated exiting policies.Information that is
collected is used for observation by making visual documentation form of photo colour
photographs, slides, maps as supporting data analysist. Observational studies conducted on
fasade elements and the mass of the buildings.The result of this study are expected to issue a
draft directive that could be applied in the study area and location of others sites that have
similar functions in common sense.
