undergoing the process of education. There are several things that can be associated with the
development of professional conduct, of which is self-reflection and the ability to understand
(insight) what was going on around him/her. Student behavior that reflects the professionalism in
the population of this study focused on responsible behavior.
Objective: This study aimed to outline the picture of self-reflection and insight (SRI) on medical
students, an overview of the students' perceptions of professional conduct (responsibility) and to
analyze the relationship between the two of them.
Methods: It is a quantitative study using cross sectional approach. Research subjects are students
of batch 2009-2011 who are still active when the study took place. In addition to student
characteristics data, data also obtained from the questionnaire of SRI scale and perception scale
which consists of 5 Likert scale. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVAtest
and Pearson correlation test.
Results: In general, SRI of students was still low with an average score = 2.46, as well as
students' perceptions of responsible behavior (mean score = 2.25). Based on students
characteristics, significant difference in SRI was only found in the high school of origin (p =
0.043) and in the perception was found in father's occupation (p = 0.018). Correlation test results
show a significant relationship between SRI scores and perception scores (p = 0.0001).
Conclusion: Self-reflection and insight of UMI medical students were still low and they were
aligned with students' perceptions of professional conduct (responsibility) which were also low.
These values varied by students characteristics but for all intents and pusposes, the differences
were not significant. |
