Lung tuberculosis (TB), is one of community health problems in Indonesia. Patients' families are target groups for health promotion of lung TB prevention. They are the closest and the most frequently person in contact with the patient. They are expected to give information to lung TB patients and at the same time become drug taking supervisors. Health promotion using bebondresan traditional media is expected to increase the knowledge and behavior of the family in caring of lung TB patients. To assess the effectiveness of health promotion through bebondresan traditional media compared to a big group health education to the family of lung TB patients in efforts to increase knowledge and behavior of the family in caring of lung TB patients.
This was a quasi experiment which used pretest and posttest control group design. Samples were families of lung TB patients at subdistrict of Gianyar and Blahbatuh. They were purposively taken. Data collection used questionnaires. Patients were also cross-checked to identify family behavior in caring lung TB patients. Independent t-test, paired t-test and linear regression were also for data analysis. Statistical determination was basedon significance level p = 0.05.
Bebondresan and the big group health education had significant influence in increasing knowledge. Bebondresan traditional media was increased of the family behavior rather than the big group health education after health promotion of the family in caring of lung TB patients. It was concluded that health promotion method using bebondresan traditional media and the big group health education could increase knowledge and behavior of the family in caring of lung TB patients.
