| Summary: | Cucumber mosaic virus was a pathogen that attacks most of crop worldwide. It needed to be controlled by any means and one of the effective ways of control was using antiviral substances from plants. Some plants contained an antiviral substance were Phytollaca americana L, Dianthus caryophillus L. and Mirabilis jalapa L. M. jalapa contain an antiviral substance that was called Mirabilis Antiviral Protein (MAP).
The objective of the research was to know the influence of Mirabilis Antiviral Protein (MAP) on the systemic infection of cucumber mosaic virus (CMV). The cucumber was used as test plants that showed systemic symptom and inoculation was done by both mechanical or by its vector, Aphis craccivora Koch. The host was treated with extract oi Mirabilis jalapa L. leaves which contain MAP on 6,12,24,48 and 72 hours prior to viral inoculation.
The highest inhibition of viral infection by MAP on mechanical inoculation was achieved by the 6 hours treatment before inoculation as high as 8% of the rate of symptom percentage on plant. The lowest inhibition was achieved by the 48 hours treatment before inoculation as low as 60% of the rate of symptom percentage on plant. The inhibition of viral infection by MAP on the plant that inoculated by vector was low. Symptom appearance was delayed until the third week after inoculation compared with control. It showed by the delayed symptom appearance on seventeenth day after inoculation whereas control showed that the symptom was appeared on eleventh day after inoculation.
