This research was performed to compare the effectiveness of using Medroxy Progesterone Acetate (MPA) and Controlled Internal Drug Release (CIDR) for estrus synchroniztion in Etawah Cross Bred (ECB) does and influencing of Gonadotrophin Releasing Hormone (GnRH) on pregnancy rate in (ECB does by using estrus synchronization with Medroxy Progesterone Acetate (MPA) and Controlled Internal Drug Release (CIDR) intravaginally. This research was studied at Sumber Agung Jetis Bantul.
Sixteen ECB does, 1.5 to 3.0 years of age with approximately 30 kg body weight were used in this experiment. The animals were randomly divided into 4 groups and assigned the following treatment: I (MPA), II (MPA+GnRH), III (CIDR), and IV (CIDR+GnRH). The animals were given MPA and CIDR intra vaginally for 18 days. The breeding was done twice in a natural procedure, and GnRH was given intra muscularly at the first breeding.
The result showed that there was no significant difference (p>0.05) to the estrus percentage, estrus induction time, pregnancy rate, and litter size. It could be concluded that both MPA sponges and CIDR implant intravaginally were effective influencing estrus synchronization on ECB does. Injection of GnRH 50 mg did not show significant difference statistically. However, using CIDR + GnRH tended to show the higher pregnancy rate, while using CIDR showed the estrus faster than MPA treatment.
