Summary: | Abstract
The study was aimed to determine (1) the increase in self-esteem of poor farmers in the Program, (2) the pattern of households' income and expenditure of the small farmers, (3) identification of factors influencing the income of the small farmers, (4) to investigate the relationship between income from the farmers' business and the time allocation on off-farm activities, (5) to investigate the development of own capital, and (6) to know the households' welfare of the small farmers.
The study was conducted in Kecamatan Bambang Lipuro and Pajangan by purposively. The primary data were collected from 113 sample respondents using stratified random sampling, such as: analysis varians, Generalized Least Square (GLS) estimation, path analysis, moment product correlation, and Kruskal Wallis method were used in the analysis.
The results showed that the Program in general was able to increase the self-esteem of the farmers. The biggest contribution on households income was from small trading while from the expenditure analysis showed that the Program was able to increase the ability of farmers and the investments on business development.
On the other hand, the regression analysis by using the GLS method determined that the households' income of the small farmers was positively influenced by capital, working hours, age, family size, guidence, off-farm activities. Meanwhile, the path analysis showed that farm households' income was directly determined by the capital, working hours, market assesibility, family size, guidence, and small trading.
Most of working" hours was used on the own business rather than on other activities. This activity gave the certain and continuous income. Generally* the capital applied in the business was mostly their own capital although for developing the business needed credit. The success of the Program, could be shown by the increase in households welfare of the small farmers.
